Update on new gear and what you need to know!

Update:

Okay for some background please visit this post: Some New Gear!

So let me tell you what happened.

The monolights I got were broken, truly unlucky. I went to and from B&H 5 times trying to figure out what the problem was. At the end I returned the Light Kit instead of exchanging.

The reason I decided not to exchange is: I don’t feel comfortable using flash, I’m much better with either natural light or fluorescent.

So It’s still a good kit, just not for me. Impact Two Monolight Kit-200 Total Watt/Seconds.

But….If you feel more comfortable with constant lights I suggest this kit that I am going to buy soon and that is:

Interfit Super Cool-lite 5 Fluorescent Flood Light Kit $388.50

Some New Gear!

Well I got some cool new gear and it didn’t cost me much at all. Below you will find a video of me setting up all this for the first time and the direct links to the B&H website.

So what did I get?

Well most important I got monolights, I really needed lights so I can do normal white background shots and I want to try food shots too.

For only $199.95 I got so much!

B&H has it and it’s called the: Impact Two Monolight Kit-200 Total Watt/Seconds.

It comes with:

2 Monolights  – 2 Softboxes – 2 back stands – 1 carry bag – 1 umbrella – and 1 pc sync cord (15ft) though mine came with 2 pc sync cords, maybe it was on purpose.

Check it out right here, a really awesome deal:

IMPACT TWO MONOLIGHT KIT! $199.95

I also got a Savage Economy Background Stand $64.95 with the Savage 53″ by 12 yards Super White $24.95 paper roll. Great deal too.

With all this I also added the super handy Gaffer Tape $4.50 and the Hama Hot Shoe Adapter $19.95 to go with the pc sync cord that comes with the light kit. You will need it if your camera doesn’t have a PC SYNC socket. Note: The PC SYNC cord only attaches to one flash since the 2nd will fire automatically when the 1st is triggered.

In total with tax it was $337.37. That’s really not much for all the things I got. Oh and a piece of advice: If your in NYC don’t try and take the train after buying all this 🙂 .

Enjoy the video below of me setting this all up for the first time, as you can see on the right one monolight is already set-up. That’s because I decided to shoot the video after I finished it, hehe.

And when I use all this gear on a job I’ll be sure to take a video of that too.

8 Tips for Shooting Extremely Wide Angles-Guest Post

Posted in Guest Post with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 18, 2009 by Rafi Greenstein

* Photo by me at the Veteran’s Day Parade in NYC.

Wide angle photography can be fun and challenging at the same time. On one hand, it’s great to pull in so much of a scene with a single shot. On the other hand, it can be difficult to produce a well composed photo at such a wide perspective. So I’ve pulled together a few photos and pieces of advice for shooting with wide angle lenses.

For the purpose of this article, we’ll consider anything at or below 30mm (full frame equiv) to be a wide angle.

An article by Scott Bourne

I’ve written about the war on photography extensively. I’ve commented on it on almost every photography forum that exists. But it occurred to me, I haven’t talked about, when it started; What started it; or Who started it? My research on this subject has led me to an inescapable conclusion that has no political motivation.

Alright finally people some good

stuff. Today was the St. Patrick’s Day Parade

in NYC and I was there. I got the best pictures

all at the end of the parade when everyone was

walking slower, the sun was out, and the cops weren’t there 🙂 .

Also I took out my Pentax 50mm 1.4 towards the end. A lot

of the pictures that would of been amazing are not that great because

of a problem focusing. Dave please DON’T shut up your the only one

that is posting comments, I hope you enjoy these.

There are a lot more pictures but it’s just too much

right now.
